Safe Operating Guidelines for EOT Cranes

  1. Do Not Overload – Never exceed the rated load capacity of the crane or hoist, including the combined weight of the lifter and the load.
  2. Refuse Unsafe Lifts – If you are uncertain about any issue, do not proceed with the lift. Wait until all concerns are fully resolved.
  3. Follow Designated Instructions – Only take instructions from the authorized person responsible for giving signals.
  4. No Riding on the Crane – Do not ride the hoist, hook, or load, and ensure that no one else does either.
  5. Proper Load Positioning – Before lifting, move the crane and hoist/hook directly above the load to prevent side loading and minimize load swing.
  6. Check Surroundings – Ensure the area is clear of pinch or crush hazards before initiating a lift.
  7. Brake Test – Lift the load a few inches off the ground first to check that the hoist brake is functioning correctly before continuing.
  8. Rigging Safety – Inspect the rigging for wear and damage, and use proper rigging techniques suitable for the load’s size, shape, and weight.
  9. Maintain a Clear Path – Always keep a clear view of the crane’s path to identify obstacles or personnel in the way.
  10. Smooth Travel Movements – Use a continuous motion while moving the crane and avoid sudden starts or stops to minimize load swing.
